A few weeks ago, we ran the huge ‘Analogue, Digital and You’ Survey to find out what it is that makes you, our Lomographic friends, tick. Thanks to the 5676 people from 82 countries who took the time to respond, we are delighted to now be able to share the statistics with you.
The Lomography community’s heart beats differently. We found that thanks to our Analogue lifestyle, Lomographers aren’t quite as tied to technology as everyone else. In the recent TIME Magazine Mobility poll based on 4,700 respondents from 7 countries, 24% of respondents said they could not go longer than 1 hour without their mobile; in contrast, only 5% of Lomographers said that this was the case for them. This is not the only differing figure. Take a look below and get ready for more surprises!
It probably comes as no surprise that Lomographers spend as much time on social media sites and the Internet as the rest. However, the majority of Lomographers decided that they would prefer to have analogue options and cut-off the digital ones; 83% of those who replied said, given the either/or choice, they would rather shoot analogue than digital! This is also reflected in such trends as a high percentage of acoustical instrument players or listening to vinyl. Take a look below and see in what way we manage to find equilibrium and have more fun.
So who is the ‘average’ Lomographer? In turns out 50% of us are between 20 and 30 years old and 86% own at least one Lomography camera. But of course, who only cares about the averages! We’re thrilled that over 10% of Lomographers are over 40 years old and close to 20% are under 19! It’s also great to see how many die-hard analogue fans there are; nearly 1 in 5 of respondents own more than 5 Lomography cameras!
Among the 5676 responses we received for the recent ‘Analogue, Digital and You’ survey, 49% of the people were male and 51% were female. We went through the data and compared how differently male and female Lomographers view the world. This experiment showed some very interesting distinctions between our Lomo boys and girls. Check out the Girls vs. Boys stats below!
When we carried out the ‘Analogue, Digital and You’ survey, we got responses from people of all ages. 2229 of those who took part in the questionnaire were under 30 and 1119 were over 30. When comparing the results of our Lomographic youngsters against our old-school analogue heroes, some very interesting statistics were discovered. Out of the people who responded under the age of 30, 42% were male and 58% were female. But there was a far higher percentage of male Lomographers over the age of 30. In fact, a whopping 65% of older Lomographers are male and only 35% are female. See below for more comparisons between our Lomographic Youngsters and Golden Oldies!
Please Note: The statistics shown here are based on the results of the Lomography 'Analogue, Digital and You' questionnaire. There were 5676 replies (2749 male, 2922 female) to the questionnaire and participants from 82 countries.
